Fantail Travel Tumbler

This travel mug features a hand painted fantail (pīwakawaka in Te reo Māori) underglaze design that is carved in a block print style design. I've left the fantail unglazed so there is a fun texture when you hold the mug. 

When I first moved to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2024, these sweet little birds made me so happy whenever I'd hear their gentle chirps and see their big fan tails as they watched me from atop a branch and I'd always feel like my mom had sent them to visit me. In Te Ao Māori (the Māori worldview), pīwakawaka are viewed as messengers from the spirit world, sometimes bringing news from the ancestors.
